Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

Mount Madonna Institute is located on 355 acres of mountaintop redwood forest and grassland overlooking Monterey Bay, between Santa Cruz and Monterey, in Northern California. About 45 minutes from Santa Cruz, 30 minutes from Watsonville or Gilroy, 75 minutes from San Jose and 2 hours from San Francisco and Oakland.

What are the different levels of Āyurveda training programs offered?

We have three levels of training including, Āyurvedic Health Counselor (12 months), Certificate – Āyurvedic Practitioner (22 months including Diploma), and Master of Arts – Āyurveda (31 months including Certificate).

What is Classical Aṣhṭānga Yoga?

Classically, Aṣhṭānga Yoga means Eight-limbed Yoga. Our Yoga Teacher Training programs address each limb and will teach asanas from the Hatha Yoga system as shared with us by our teacher, Baba Hari Dass. We wish to be clear that we do not teach a contemporary method of āsana that has come to be known as "Aṣhṭānga" or "Power Yoga".

In what service areas are YSC students placed? What skills are learned?

Participants are exposed to food service, event registration and check-in, event organization, and more; and often learn many general, practical skills. There are many opportunities to improve interpersonal communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and your overall sense of self-awareness and well-being. People in leadership positions receive more specialized training.
