Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) Program

The Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) curriculum is the first step to becoming an Āyurvedic Practitioner, an Āyurvedic Yoga Therapist or pursuing your Masters Degree in Āyurveda.

Students are trained to provide diet and lifestyle support by integrating constitutional assessment, nutritional knowledge, basic herbology, lifestyle management, introductory counseling skills, Ayurvedic bodywork therapies and introductory level Sanskrit, yoga theory and practice.

Through our supervised clinical internship students engage in group and one on one consultations in preparation for a professional career as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor.

Goals & Aims

The Ayurvedic Health Counselor’s scope of practice encompasses a focus on preventive health care and health promotion utilizing the experience and knowledge of appropriate diet and lifestyle practices and recommendations for the unique individuals in a clinical practice. Graduates may become professional members of the National Ayurvedic Medicine Association (NAMA), start a clinical practice independently, join the staffs of yoga studios or spas, work in health resorts, and join integrative healthcare practices as diet and lifestyle counselors.

Program Highlights

The AHC is a 12 month program focused on coursework and clinical practicum that prepares students for a professional career as an Ayurvedic Health Counselor.

AHC Pre-requisite for 2022:

  • 4 college level credits of Anatomy and Physiology (required to be completed prior to submitting an application)
  • Applicants unable to complete A&P before the application deadline may join our Foundations program and complete A&P concurrently with the Foundations modules. Enroll in the program upon successful completion of both by April 1st.

Classes are held in the following format:

  • Extended weekend intensive runs Thursday evening through Sunday evening and includes yoga, Sanskrit, and coursework. Classes also meet weekly online on Tuesday nights from 5:00-8:00 pm.
  • For 2022 we will be hosting in-person classes with a remote option for coursework from January-May. Starting in June, all clinical work must be attended in-person.

Final completion date is December 18, 2022.

Foundations of Ayurveda

This is an in-between program for those who want to go beyond a weekend Ayurveda course but aren't ready to commit to the full year long AHC. Learn the fundamentals of Ayurvedic theory, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, lifestyle management, yoga, basic clinical assessment and Sanskrit with our master faculty. Completion of this course may be applied towards the Ayurvedic Health Counselor certificate.
