Āyurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) Program

The Ayurvedic Health Counselor (AHC) curriculum is the first step to becoming an Ayurvedic Practitioner, an Ayurvedic Yoga Therapist or pursuing your Masters Degree in Ayurveda.

Students are trained to provide diet and lifestyle support by integrating constitutional assessment, nutritional knowledge, basic herbology, lifestyle management, introductory counseling skills, ayurvedic bodywork therapies and introductory level Sanskrit, yoga theory and practice.

Through our supervised clinical internship and externship programs students engage in group and one on one consultations in preparation for a professional career as an Āyurvedic Health Counselor.

Goals & Aims

The Āyurvedic Health Counselor’s scope of practice encompasses a focus on preventive health care and health promotion utilizing the experience and knowledge of appropriate diet and lifestyle practices and recommendations for the unique individuals in a clinical practice. Graduates may become professional members of the National Āyurvedic Medicine Association (NAMA), start a clinical practice independently, join the staffs of yoga studios or spas, work in health resorts, and join integrative healthcare practices as diet and lifestyle counselors.

Program Highlights

The AHC is a 12 month program designed to fit the busy schedule of professionals and others from all walks of life.*

AHC Pre-requisite for 2022:

  • 4 college level credits of Anatomy and Physiology (required to be completed before the program starts in late January 2022.

Classes are held in the following format:

  • Thursday evening check-in and integration: 2 hrs
  • Three-day weekend, Fri – Sun (yoga & coursework): 27 hrs
  • Four Tuesday nights a month (2 hours each) coursework & integrations: 8 hrs
  • One weekday morning per month (Sanskrit): 3 hrs

Once the coursework is complete, students have an additional three months of supervised clinical observations and practicums.

Final completion date is December 18, 2022.

Academic Programs Calendar for 2021 Cohort

Classes begin Thursday evenings at 5pm and end Sundays at 6pm.

Each weekend includes two courses, yoga, and integration. Throughout the rest of the month, there are four 3-hour classes on Tuesday evenings plus a 3-hour Sanskrit class once a month.

Following the coursework and onsite clinical internships, there are 3 additional months of clinical externship requirements that are completed in your home area.

Foundations of Āyurveda

This is an in-between program for those who want to go beyond a weekend Āyurveda course but aren't ready to commit to the full year long AHC. Learn the fundamentals of Āyurvedic theory, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, lifestyle management, yoga, basic clinical assessment and Sanskrit with our master faculty. Completion of this course may be applied towards the Āyurvedic Health Counselor certificate.
