Why Mount Madonna?

Our Yoga Teacher Training focuses primarily on the systems of Aṣhṭānga Yoga and Haṭha Yoga and the methods we teach include ṣhat karma, mudrā, prāṇāyāma, dhyāna, and āsana. The foundational theory that supports these practices is taught in classes on Patañjali’s Yoga Sūtras, Sāmkhya Philosophy, basic principles of Āyurveda, subtle body theory, anatomy, and physiology. Teaching methodology, or how to share this ancient knowledge is woven throughout the program.

The aim of our 200 hour program is to assist you in deepening your understanding of the methods and philosophy of yoga, as a way to both strengthen your personal practice and to develop as a yoga instructor. It is our intention that those who wish to teach have the tools to offer a beginning yoga class upon completion of the training, and to have a basic understanding of the vast background of this great science and spiritual practice.

Often in the West when we say, “I do yoga” it means, “I practice āsana (postures).” In fact, the methods of yoga are multi-faceted and encompass a way of life leading to inner peace and liberation from the confines of desires, ego and attachments.

In our training at Mount Madonna, we draw from these ancient classical teachings that have been passed down from teacher to student for thousands of years. Āsana is one of many practices within this vast system of knowledge.
