  • Enjoy spectacular views of three volcanoes: Agua, Fuego (active, but far enough away!) and Acatenango.
  • Visit a local chocolate factory and a coffee farm.
  • Explore colonial churches and local markets where colorful textiles abound.
  • Visit Mayan ruins and participate in a sacred Mayan fire ceremony.
  • Practice yoga daily: pranayama, asana, meditation.

Presenters

kamalesh

Kamalesh Ginger Hooven, MA Ayurveda, Ayurvedic Yoga Therapist, E-RYT 500, Chair of Mount Madonna Institute’s School of Yoga and faculty in the College of Ayurveda. You will be able to see Guatemala through the eyes of someone who has lived there for over 37 years and very much feels a part of the culture. Kamalesh has been teaching yoga for 21 years and training teachers at Mount Madonna since 2004. Her private practice of Yoga Therapy and her consistent study of Ayurveda informs her lifestyle and her teaching. When in Guatemala, you will often find her at her restaurant, Cafe Condesa, located on the Central Park of Antigua.

Giulia Maero, YTT 500, Cultural Anthropologist, Doula and current student in MMI’s Ayurvedic Health Counselor program. Trained in Prenatal Yoga, Postnatal Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga (YTT-200), Classical Restorative Yoga and Advanced Yoga Studies (YTT-300, Mount Madonna Institute). Italian, Giulia has been living in Guatemala for the last 13 years where she’s been sharing the teachings of Yoga for 9 years with a growing community of local and international people.

Satya Cathy Hutton, YTT 500, board member of Mount Madonna Institute, and current student in MMI’s Ayurvedic Educator program. Satya resides in the San Francisco, California bay area in the United States where she has been teaching yoga in private sessions with students, in studios with group classes, and leading yoga retreats for personal and spiritual growth since 2020

Cost Summary:

  • Program costs $2,800, inclusive of tuition, meals, and lodging (excluding airfare)
  • Airfare – prices vary from $700 - $1,000 – payable to airline of your choice (Important: air travel will not be arranged or managed by retreat organizers)

Cost Details:

Tuition: $2,000

  • Payable in advance to Mount Madonna
  • Reserve your space with a $1,000 deposit at the time of registration
  • Tuition balance of $1,000 due August 1, 2024
  • Meals and lodging cost of $800 is due upon arrival in Guatemala
  • Space is limited to 15 participants

Lodging, meals, excursions and incidentals: $800

  • Payable upon arrival in Guatemala to Kamalesh (Casa San Juan)
    • Visa, Mastercard, US check, or cash accepted
    • Includes seven nights stay in shared accommodations at Casa San Juan, airport transfer upon arrival (only), all local tours and travel, all meals except one dinner in Antigua
  • Participants may come early or stay longer at a special price of $65 per person per night, two meals included

  • PLEASE NOTE: Air travel will not be arranged or managed by retreat organizers and must be arranged solely by the retreat participant

Cancellation or Change in Registration

Deposits are non-refundable and are not transferable to another person. For cancellations received at least 2 weeks before the program starts, the deposit minus a $200 fee will be credited to any other program within one year. No credit is available for cancellations less than two weeks prior to the program start date, for no-shows, or for leaving an event early.
