Foundations of Ayurveda

The next Foundations program will begin with the start of the 2022 Ayurvedic Health Counselor program on January 27, 2022.

Completion of this course may be applied towards the 2022 Āyurvedic Health Counselor certificate.

Immerse yourself in the ancient wisdom and foundational principles, history, and philosophy of Āyurvedic medicine.

Goals & Aims

This for-credit program is an in-between alternative for those who want to go beyond a weekend Āyurveda course but aren't yet ready to commit to the full year long AHC.

Students can attend and complete Modules 1-3, with the option to apply to the full 2022 Ayurvedic Health Counselor program at the end of Module 3. (Modules must be taken sequentially).

This program offers over 200 hours of training including fundamentals of Āyurvedic theory, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, lifestyle management, yoga, basic clinical assessment and Sanskrit with our master faculty. Additional studies at home will include reading assignments, study guides, and homework.

Program Highlights

Foundations students have all the same academic, attendance, and coursework requirements as the full AHC students.

  • 2 courses per intensive
  • Required Yoga, Sanskrit & Integration during intensive
  • Complete the homework to receive credit/qualify to join the AHC certificate program
  • 36.5 total synchronous hours each month, view full AHC schedule here.
  • Approximately 97.5 hours monthly commitment, including asynchronous work and homework

Transfer into the Full Ayurvedic Health Counselor Program

After successful completion of Modules 1-3, Foundations students will have the opportunity to apply to the 2022 AHC program.

Introduction to Ayurveda (AY 101) & Lifestyle Management (AY 103)
  • Introduction to Āyurveda (AY101) introduces students to the 5,000-year-old tradition of Āyurveda, its aims and objectives, basic principles, concepts of health and disease, methods of examining patients, and treatment methods. Students gain a solid foundation in the science, history, and philosophy of Āyurveda. They are introduced to the concepts of individual nature and dosha imbalance as the basis for diagnosis of health and disease, as well as the five-element theory.
  • Lifestyle Management (AY103) introduces the student to Āyurvedic recommendations for creating healthy lifestyles, daily and seasonal routines, yogic cleansing practices, and self-care. Students also learn therapies focusing on the five senses.

Āyurvedic Anatomy and Physiology (AY 102) & Yoga and Ayurveda (AY 104)
  • Āyurvedic Anatomy and Physiology (AY102) examines the disease process in Āyurvedic medicine, including Ayurvedic anatomy and physiology, the cause of disease, the stages of disease, formation of tissues, and classification of disease. Students learn the process of constitutional analysis.
  • Yoga and Āyurveda; Sister Sciences (AY104) teaches Yoga philosophy and practice and its benefits in health and disease. Students learn the Āyurvedic effects of different styles of Yoga practice, yogic cleansing for disease prevention, and meditation and breathing practices to restore healthy balance.

Āyurvedic Nutrition (AY 105) & Āyurveda and the Mind (AY 106)
  • Āyurvedic Nutrition (AY105) introduces the principles of Āyurvedic nutrition and digestion. Students will learn the use of diet and nutrition programs in health and disease, individual guidelines for diet, and a balanced diet for the seasons, while exploring the Āyurvedic approach to the energetics of food.
  • Āyurvedic Psychology, also known as Āyurveda and the Mind (AY106) introduces the student to the energetics of consciousness, the Āyurvedic description of the mind, and therapies to support the mind.

*Tuition Cost (per Module): $962.00 + $45.00 Registration fee = $1,007.00

Please note that textbooks and pre-reading are required for this course. Textbook list provided upon application completion.

Refund Policy:
Refund available minus $75.00 cancellation fee if course is dropped prior to 48 hours before course start date.
No refund available if course is dropped within 48 hours of start date, or after course has started.
