Thanksgiving… a Day of Gratitude

Written by Kamalesh Ginger Hooven, MA, Ayurveda

How do we temper ourselves through the holiday feasts?

Will you take the time to make a meal yourself? Will you enjoy a meal that others prepared for you? Will you go out to a favorite restaurant and have a very “untraditional” Thanksgiving Day meal? Whatever you decide on for this national day of gratitude, remember the workers who planted the crops, harvested them and transported them to your favorite grocery store or restaurant. Think of all that went into getting the food to the table. Express your gratitude for those who share the meal with you.

By taking the time to give thanks for the food we receive; giving thanks for the hands that prepared it and the workers who grew it, we become more conscious individuals.

To enjoy the holiday feasts, make a commitment to pace yourself. Allow time for chatting with those who share your table. No mindless chewing; enjoy every morsel. Think twice about second helpings. Eat slowly and mindfully. Enjoy yourself, enjoy your company and above all, give thanks.
